Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Barry Holley Washington, 45, of Detroit, in connection with the non-fatal shooting of a Detroit police officer.

On January 11, 2024, at approximately 11:15 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 12900 block of Burt Street in Detroit for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located Defendant Washington on the second floor of the apartment building. During the officers' encounter with the defendant, it is alleged that Defendant Washington produced and fired a shotgun at the officers. Gunfire was exchanged between officers and the defendant, and one officer was struck in the arm. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the injured officer to a local hospital for treatment. He has since been released from the hospital. Defendant Washington did not sustain gunshot wounds.

Barry Holley Washington has been charged with two counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, one count of Discharge of a Firearm in a Building, and three counts of Felony Firearm.*

He was arraigned on January 14, 2024, in 36th District Court before Magistrate Laura Echartea, and given a $100,000 cash bond with a GPS tether and house arrest. A bond re-determination hearing is scheduled for January 17, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., before Judge William McConico.
