Ypsilanti Woman Charged in Fatal Shooting of Detroit Woman
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Shawanda Woods, 44, of Ypsilanti, MI, in connection with the fatal shooting of Phebian Williams, 53, of Detroit.
On October 15, 2023, at approximately 7:03 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 15600 block of Edmore Drive for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim in the kitchen of the home, suffering from a gunshot wound to neck. Medics arrived on the scene and pronounced Ms. Williams deceased.
It is alleged that a verbal altercation between the victim and the defendant escalated, and Defendant Woods produced and fired a handgun, fatally injuring Ms. Wiliams. More facts and evidence will be placed on the record at the preliminary examination.
Shawanda Woods has been charged with Second-Degree Murder and Felony Firearm.*
She was arraigned and remanded to jail on October 18, 2023, in 36th District Court. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for November 1, 2023, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for November 8, 2023, at 1:45 p.m., before Judge Kenneth King.
