Three Detroit Men Charged In Shooting Of Infant
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Cleveland Tyvon Smelley, 30 (DOB: 7/27/16), Deonta Charles Bennett, 21 (DOB: 12/14/94) and Antoine Lamar Smelley, 32 (DOB: 11/26/83) in connection with the shooting of a two-year-old girl, Makanzee Oldham (DOB: 06/13/2013). All three men are Detroit residents. On May 25, 2016 at 7:30 p.m., it is alleged that Antoine Smelley was at a home in the 16400 block of Fairmount. He poured juice over the head of a woman who was getting ready to leave the house to go to a prom. Antoine Smelley pulled out a handgun and threatened the young woman and her friends. Shortly thereafter, Cleveland Smelley and Bennett drove over to the house and met briefly with Antoine Smelley. Once outside, the men engaged in a fight with several people. During the fight, it is alleged that Bennett gave a handgun to Cleveland Smelley, who shot at seven people in a car, including Makanzee Oldham, who was seriously wounded. The child is currently in the hospital.
All three defendants are charged with eight counts of Assault With Intent to Murder. Additionally, Cleveland Smelly is charged with Felony Firearm - Second Offense. Defendant Deonta Bennett is also charged with Felony Firearm. Defendant Antoine Smelley is additionally charged with two counts of Felonious Assault and Felony Firearm.
The defendants are expected to be arraigned tomorrow morning at 11:00 in 34th District Court in Romulus.
