Wayne County Deputy Sheriff Charged With Criminal Sexual Conduct
Yesterday, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Wayne County Deputy Sheriff Thomas Arthur Pedersen, 48 (DOB: 04/12/1968), of Wayne County, in connection with inappropriate sexual activity. It is alleged that between 2010 and November, 2016 the defendant engaged in an ongoing pattern of inappropriate sexual conduct with a relative. The facts and the evidence in the case will be presented in court at the preliminary examination.
Pedersen has been charged with three counts of First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct with a person under 13 years of age and one count of Second Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct.*
Pedersen was arraigned on the warrant today in 33rd District Court in Woodhaven by Judge Michael McNally. Bond was set at $250,000 cash, with comprehensive no-contact provisions put in place (no contact with the complainant, any minors, any witnesses for the prosecution, and he is to remain two miles away from the victim). If the defendant makes bond, a GPS tether has been ordered by the court. On November 29, 2016 at 1:30 p.m., the defendant will have a probable cause conference. The preliminary exam is scheduled for December 5, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. The judge has ordered that the media not to live-stream the court proceedings.
*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
