Wayne County Veterans Services Gains New Director, Moves to New Location
Wayne County Veterans Services Division has brought in new leadership and is taking steps to provide better services to residents who served our country with a move to a more convenient location and extended hours. Also, the Wayne County Commission has approved funding for outreach to help better connect with veterans in their communities.
After an extensive search, Kwesi Betserai was named Veterans Services division director. Betserai is a United States Army veteran with over 28 years of service as both an enlisted and commissioned officer during Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
"Kwesi has been in the role for four months, diligently evaluating the landscape of the Wayne County veteran community," said Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans. "His meticulous management skills and extensive military experience will help lift the division to a new level of service by working to meet veterans where they are throughout the county."
Betserai is retired from a decorated military career with the rank of Major in 2015 having earned an MBA from American Military University and holds graduate certificates in project management and lean enterprise.
Betserai leads a team to provide financial support for veterans in need through the Soldiers and Sailors Relief Fund, the Michigan Veteran Trust Fund and manages funeral expense assistance to veterans and their families.
Veterans Services Division Offices recently moved from its current office on 28 Adams in Grand Circus Park to the 4th floor in the International Building on 400 Monroe Street, Suite 405 in Greektown where parking is more accessible. In order to provide working veterans with better access to much needed resources, the Veterans Services team has extended its office hours on Wednesday to 6:30 PM.
Additional funds were made available in the recently approved 2020 budget to increase outreach in various out-county communities to help meet the needs of veterans who may have transportation challenges.
"We aspire to serve those who served our country with consideration and respect by providing accessibility, convenience and courtesy," said Betserai. "My job is to honor this commitment with quality service and professionalism."
