July 2021 Wayne County Executive Newsletter
While we've made great progress in vaccinating over 585,000 Wayne County residents in just a few months' time, there is more work to be done to reach a vaccination rate of 70 percent, the national goal defined by public health experts as what's needed to reach herd immunity and halt the pandemic. We are close to reaching 64 percent, and our team is laser focused on keeping all community members healthy and safe. Help us get the word out by watching and sharing our new video:
All Michigan residents over the age of 12 are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, which is safe, effective, and available at no cost. Do your part for our community and get your vaccine (or your family's) today if you haven't yet!

Last month's heavy rain and subsequent flooding have presented so many challenges for the broader Wayne County community. It will take all of us to help those most impacted because this is an all-hands-on-deck effort:
- VOLUNTEER: https://forms.gle/msxDGT1QpXrsv9ge6
- REQUEST CLEAN UP ASSISTANCE: https://forms.gle/xuGsRbaNt79hss3H7
Our team has been working around the clock to help residents, assisting homeowners across the county, including over 30 in Highland Park. We will continue to partner with city, county, state, and federal leaders to ensure that those most impacted get the support and relief they need.
I was proud to participate in the Midwest Invitational Rodeo last month in Belleville. It was an honor to support these fantastic horsemen and women. Too often history ignores that roughly one of four Old West cowboys were Black. The Midwest Invitational Rodeo participants are continuing a long and proud tradition of Black horsemen and women as well as ensuring the next generation has the opportunity to learn this great sport.
Check out the event highlights here:
On June 24, police officers from the 10th Precinct, members of the 10th precinct Community Relations Organization and the Wayne County Constituent Relations team did a surprise drive-by birthday motorcade to celebrate the 94th birthday of Ms. Willie Mae Martin. Tene Ramsey of the Constituent Relations team presented Ms. Martin with a birthday certificate from Wayne County.
