Charges Issue in Acid Attack
On July 15, 2023, Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged a 12-year-old girl in connection with assaulting an 11-year-old girl with acid. The assault occurred on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at a local park in Detroit.
The juvenile respondent has been charged with one count each of Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm and Felonious Assault. * The Detroit Public Schools Community District Police Department is currently investigating matters related to this case.
A preliminary hearing was held on July 15, 2023, and a $10,000/% bond with a tether was ordered. The respondent was ordered to have no contact with the victim or any witnesses. Today a Pre-Trial Hearing was held before Referee Wanda Cal. Her next court hearing is another Pre-Trial Hearing before Judge Christopher Dingell on August 1, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. The juvenile respondent's bond remained the same.
"This is an extremely troubling set of allegations. Instant horrible decision making can have lifelong effects on others. There is no excuse for this," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.
*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
