Charges Issue in Fatal Shooting at Detroit Gas Station
On January 7, 2022, at approximately at 7:42 p.m., at a gas station in the 11000 block of East Seven Mile Road in Detroit, it is alleged that Green saw the victim and his brother walking into the gas station when he fired a gun in their direction striking the 15-year-old victim in the buttocks area. Green attempted to shoot again when his weapon jammed, and he ran outside. Shortly thereafter, Green went back inside the gas station and found the 15-year-old victim helpless and injured on the floor. It is alleged that Green stood over the victim, firing his gun five times at close range, fatally wounding the victim. He fled from the scene on foot.
Detroit police officers were dispatched to a gas for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim inside the gas station suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Medics arrived on scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest and charging of Green. He has been charged as an adult with one count each of First-Degree Murder, Assault with Intent to Murder, and two counts of Felony Firearm. *
"This case is a stark reminder of why there should always be options for prosecutors when the facts allege unspeakable premeditated violence by juveniles. The facts in this case warrant charging the defendant as an adult," said Prosecutor Worthy.
The defendant was arraigned and remanded to jail this afternoon in 36th District Court. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for February 15, 2022 and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for February 22, 2022 in 36th District Court before Judge Kenneth King. Please request a photograph of the defendant from the Detroit Police Department.
*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
