Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Leah Renee Johnson, 30, of Dearborn Heights, in connection with the non-fatal shooting of a 41-year-old man, also of Dearborn Heights. The victim is the boyfriend of Defendant Johnson. The defendant and the victim were residing together at the time of the incident.

On May 1, 2024, at approximately 2:38 a.m., Dearborn Heights police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 25100 block of Colgate Street for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim inside the bedroom of the home, suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.

It is alleged that a verbal altercation between the defendant and the victim escalated, and Defendant Johnson produced and fired a handgun, non-fatally wounding the victim.

Leah Renee Johnson has been charged with Assault with Intent to Murder and Felony Firearm.*

She was arraigned on May 3, 2024, in 20th District Court and given a $500,000 cash/surety bond with a GPS tether. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for May 15, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for May 22. 2024, at 10:00 a.m., before Judge Mark Plawecki.
