Detroit Aunt Charged in Reckless Driving Incident
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Ashjunaria Virginia Townsend, 23, of Detroit, in connection with the endangerment of a 5-year-old boy, a 9-year-old girl, and two 10-year-old girls, all of Detroit. Defendant Townsend is the aunt of the victims.
On February 10, 2024, in the 9900 block of Somerset Avenue in Detroit, it is alleged that Defendant Townsend allowed the victims to hang out of a moving vehicle while the defendant was driving. It is also alleged that Defendant Townsend used her cellphone to record the victims while driving. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant on February 19, 2024.
Ashjunaria Virginia Townsend has been charged with four counts of Second-Degree Child Abuse and one count of Reckless Driving.*
She was arraigned this morning in 36th District Court before Magistrate Jeffrey Kleparek and given a $50,000 personal bond. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for February 27, 2024, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for March 5, 2024, at 8:45 a.m., before Judge Kenneth King.
