Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Armani Robinson, 26, of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of his eight-year-old stepson.

On August 19, 2023, at approximately 10:30 p.m., in the 15720 block of Ward Street in Detroit, it is alleged that the child found an unsecured handgun in the home and shot himself in the head. The child was privately transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Armani Robinson has been charged with Involuntary Manslaughter, Second-Degree Child Abuse, and Tampering with Evidence. *

He was arraigned this afternoon in 36th District Court and given a $250,000 cash/surety bond with a GPS tether. The defendant is also ordered to have no weapons and no contact with children under 18. A Bond Re-determination hearing is scheduled for August 25, 2023, at 9:00 a.m., before Judge William McConico. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for September 6, 2023, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for September 13, 2023, at 1:45 p.m., before Judge Kenneth King. Please request a photograph of the defendant from the Detroit Police Department.

"I am literally running out of things to say and write about this continuous stream of children shooting and killing themselves with unsecured guns. Once again, these deaths are 100% preventable and unnecessary," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy. "Does a child have to die in your home before this is taken seriously? I mean, really?"

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
