Detroit Man Charged in 1997 Cold Case Homicide of Detroit Woman
On December 1, 1997, at approximately 7:50 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to the area of James Couzens Service Drive and Sussex Street in Detroit. Upon their arrival, officers located the female victim unresponsive, with strangulation marks and lacerations on her neck. Medics arrived on scene and pronounced the victim deceased. Investigation of the cold case homicide by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant on March 30, 2022.It is alleged that Defendant Yenshaw, strangled the victim, fatally injuring her, before fleeing the scene. Further facts and evidence in the case will be introduced in court at the preliminary examination.
Johnny Joseph Yenshaw has been charged with one count of First-Degree Murder. *
He was arraigned and remanded to jail today in 36th District Court. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for April 18, 2022, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for April 25, 2022, at 1:45 p.m., before Judge Kenneth King.
