Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Ricardo Williams, 34, of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of Desmond Nelson, 32, also of Detroit.

On July 23, 2023, at approximately 2:15 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a gas station in the 15440 block of West McNichols Road for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest. Medics arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

It is alleged that a verbal altercation between the defendant and the victim escalated, and Defendant Williams produced and fired a handgun, fatally wounding the victim, before fleeing the scene. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant on August 9, 2023.

Ricardo Williams has been charged with First-Degree Murder and Felony Firearm. *

He was arraigned and remanded to jail on August 12, 2023, in 36^th District Court. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for August 21, 2023, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for August 28, 2023, at 1:45 p.m., before Judge Kenneth King.
