Detroit Man Charged in Multiple Assaults of Women at Wayne State
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Frederick Barnett, 58, of Detroit, in connection with the sexual assault of an 18-year-old Detroit woman, and the assault of a 19-year-old Saint Claire Shores woman, two 19-year-old women and an 18-year-old woman, all of Detroit.
On October 10, 2022, between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., at multiple locations on the Wayne State University campus, it is alleged that that defendant sexually assaulted the 18-year-old victim and touched the remaining victims without their permission. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the identification and arrest of the defendant later the same day.
Frederick Barnett has been charged with one count of Fourth-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, and four counts of Assault and Battery. *
He was arraigned on October 15, 2022, in 36th District Court. The defendant was given a $10,000 personal bond with a GPS tether and house arrest for the Criminal Sexual Conduct charge. He was also ordered to have no contact with the victim, and no contact with Wayne State University or any college campus. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for October 24, 2022, and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for October 31, 2022, before Judge Kenyetta Stanford-Jones.
The defendant was given a $5,000 personal bond with a GPS tether and house arrest for each Assault and Battery charge. He was also ordered to have no contact with the victims, and no contact with Wayne State University or any college campus. The Pre-Trial is scheduled for November 17, 2022, before Judge Lynise Bryant.

"The defendant is alleged to have randomly assaulted these victims in multiple venues on the campus of Wayne State University. This is unacceptable and should never happen on a college campus - or anywhere for that matter. These alleged actions are highly offensive. We look forward to resolving this in criminal court," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.
