Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Amir Daniel Napper, 20, of Detroit, in connection with a car crash that killed Eric Miller, 59, of Detroit.

On December 12, 2023, at approximately 9:16 p.m., Michigan State Police Troopers were around southbound Southfield Freeway near Schoolcraft Road when they observed Defendant Napper driving at a high rate of speed. When attempting to initiate a traffic stop, it is alleged that the defendant fled from Troopers. It is further alleged that during the chase, Defendant Napper crashed into the victim's vehicle, fatally injuring him. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the defendant to a local hospital for treatment.

Amir Daniel Napper has been charged with First-Degree Fleeing, Reckless Driving Causing Death, Operating While License Suspended, Revoked, or Denied - Causing Death, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.*

He was arraigned on December 14, 2023, in 36th District Court and given a $50,000 cash bond. A bond re-determination hearing was held this morning before Judge Michael Wagner and the defendant's bond was changed to $100,000/10% with a GPS tether and house arrest. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for December 21, 2023, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for December 28, 2023, at 8:45 a.m., before Judge Kenneth King.
