Detroit Man Charged with Shooting at Dearborn Undercover Police Officer
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Eshaun Phillip Blanding, 23, of Detroit, in connection with the carjacking of a Dearborn man's car.
On January 2, 2023, Dearborn undercover police officers were investigating a car that was stolen out of Dearborn. When the Dearborn officers located the stolen car, it is alleged that Defendant Blanding opened fire on the undercover car. A bullet went through an officer's hoodie, but he was not harmed.
Investigation by the Detroit Police Department identified the defendant as the shooter. At this time the investigation is ongoing, and no further details will be provided.
Eshaun Phillip Blanding has been charged with one count of Assault with Intent to Murder, one count of Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, one count of Felonious Assault, three counts of Felony Firearm, and one count of Possession of a Police Scanner During a Felony. *
He was arraigned this afternoon in 36th District Court and given a $750,000 cash/surety bond with a GPS tether. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for January 9, 2023, and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for January 12, 2023, before Judge Kenyetta Stanford Jones.
