Detroit Man Charged with Soliciting Money from Businesses Under False Pretenses
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Michael McCombs, 62, of Detroit, in connection with fraudulently obtaining funds from businesses.
From December 28, 2022, to January 7, 2023, it is alleged that Defendant McCombs claimed to be a Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) safety officer. It is furthered alleged that the defendant used this claim to solicit charity money from multiple businesses in Detroit. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant on January 7, 2023.
Michael McCombs has been charged with one count of Charitable Solicitation Act, one count of False Pretenses - Less than $200, three counts of Impersonating a Peace Officer, two counts of Attempted Charitable Solicitation Act, and two counts of Attempted False Pretenses - Less than $200. *
He was arraigned this morning in 36th District Court and given a $10,000 personal bond. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for January 20, 2023, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for January 27, 2023, at 8:45 a.m., before Judge Aliyah Sabree.
