Highland Park Man Charged In Bus Stop Murder
Today Malcolm Bernard Benson, 50, of Highland Park, has been charged in connection with the
homicide of Stanley Paul Carter, 59, also of Highland Park. On September 16, 2015 at 516 a.m.,
Mr. Caner was waiting for a bus in the 11800 block of Woodward and Tennyson in Highland Park
when he was approached by Benson. It is alleged that the defendant robbed and fatally shot Mr.
Carter one time in the chest with a hand gun. Mr. Carter was taken to a local hospital and was
pronounced dead on arrival. Investigation by the Highland Park Police Department led to the
arrest of Bensom During the investigation it was discovered that in the early morning hours shortly
before the homicide Benson also sexually assaulted a Highland Park woman near the area where
Mr. Carter was killed.
He is charged with First Degree Felony Murder, Armed Robbery, Criminal Sexual Conduct - First
Degree, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Felony Firearm - Second Degree. The defendant
will be arraigned on Friday, September 25, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in 30th District Couny in Highland
Park.
