Local Man Charged in Double Homicide on Winthrop
Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Ferdarius S. Shine, 28 (DOB 8/3/84), of Detroit in connection with a double homicide that occurred on February 15, 2013, in the evening at a home in the 13500 block of Winthrop in Detroit. On the same, day at approximately 6:30 p.m., the Detroit Police Department responded to a police run of a shooting. It is alleged that Shine came to the house armed with a handgun and began shooting at everyone in the house. Santangela Williams, 49, and Geraldine Bates, 68, both of Detroit, were discovered by police officers in the home, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The women were transported to a local hospital by medics and pronounced dead on arrival. Two other adult females were in the home at the time of the incident, as well as a seven-year-old female, who suffered a non-fatal gunshot wound. Shine is alleged to have fled the scene on foot and checked himself into a local hospital where he was detained and arrested.
Shine has been charged with two counts of First Degree Murder, three counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, and one count of Felony Firearm. Today he was arraigned and remanded to jail in 36th District Court and his preliminary examination date is scheduled for February 28, 2013, at 1:30 p.m.
