Man Charged in Fatal Car Crash Killing Infant and Seriously Injuring Three Others
Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Stephen James Holland, 21 (DOB 4/8/91), in connection with a fatal car crash in Detroit. On February 17, 2013, at 1:20 p.m., it is alleged that Holland was driving a car with four passengers at a high rate of speed, disregarded a stop sign and lost control of the car causing it to crash at Wildemere and Thatcher Streets. When medics arrived at the scene of the crash, the defendant and the four passengers were conveyed to a local hospital for treatment. A three-year-old female (8/12/09) riding in the car was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. The three surviving passengers were seriously injured and remain in the hospital. Holland was treated and taken into police custody on February 21, 2013.
Holland has been charged with Second Degree Murder (Life or any term of years), Reckless Driving Causing Death (15 years) and three counts of Reckless Driving Causing Serious Impairment (5 years).
Holland is expected to be arraigned today in 36th District Court at 1:00 p.m. today. Please contact the Detroit Police Department to obtain a photograph of the defendant.
