Darnell Cheatham - Defendant was convicted by a jury in the July 24, 2011 death of Mariah Smith on Waverly Street in Detroit. Cheatham was sentenced by Judge Ulysses Boykin today as follows: one count of Felony Murder to Life in Prison Without Parole; one count of Murder - Second Degree to life in prison; one count of Arson of a Dwelling House to seven-to-10 years in prison; one count of Torture to life in prison; one count of Child Abuse First Degree to 10 to 15 years in prison and one count of Mutilation of a Dead Body to 23 months to 10 years in prison. Cheatham's conviction of one count of Murder - Second Degree was vacated because Double Jeopardy prevents a defendant from being sentenced on two murder convictions when there has only been one death.
Alonzo Long, Jr. - The preliminary examination for Alonzo Long, Jr., charged in connection with the November 28, 2014 double homicide on Piedmont Street, was completed today before Judge Ruth Carter. Long was bound over on all counts, including two added counts of Felony Murder. The arraignment on the information will take place on January 13, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. in the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, located at 1441 St. Antoine in Detroit.
Sierra Tankersley - Defendant charged with the murder of her one-year-old daughter. The preliminary examination for Sierra Tankersley was adjourned today for the defendant to obtain a new attorney. The new date for the examination is January 13, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. before Judge Shannon Holmes in the 36th District Court, Detroit.

24-Year-Old Man Charged in Sexual Assault of 11-Year-Old Highland Park Girl
Arraignment Expected at Noon Today in 30th District Court
Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Ramirez Demarco Dewberry*, 24 (8/16/90), in connection with the sexual assault of an 11-year-old Highland Park girl. On December 10, 2014 at approximately 7:45 a.m. as the girl was walking to school, it is alleged that Dewberry grabbed her by the arm and pointed a gun at her head. He took the girl to a vacant house in the 80th block of Church Street in Highland Park where he sexually assaulted her. When the girl was released by the defendant she ran home and the Highland Park police were immediately contacted.
Dewberry has been charged with Kidnapping, Criminal Sexual Conduct First Degree, Criminal Sexual Conduct Second Degree, Felonious Assault and Felony Firearm. He is expected to be arraigned at noon today in 30th District Court in Highland Park.
UPDATE: The arraignment time has been moved to 2:00 p.m. today in 30th District Court in Highland Park. The defendant was arraigned and remanded today. The pre-examination is January 20, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. No testimony will be taken on that day and the preliminary examination hearing date will be scheduled.
*No city of residence was provided for the defendant because he is homeless.

Marcus Weldon - On December 21, 2014 at 1:55 a.m. at the Speedway gas station located in the 700 block of Jefferson in Detroit, it is alleged that Weldon, while dressed as Santa Claus, engaged in a heated verbal exchange with a male patron of the gas station. Weldon then fired several shots wounding the man and a passenger in his car. Today the preliminary examination was held in part. It will resume on January 15, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Michael Wagner. Judge Wagner placed the defendant on house arrest excluding 2:45 p.m. through 10:30 p.m. so the defendant can pick up his child from school and attend evening classes. On Sunday he will be allowed to attend morning church services.

Homicide of 15-year-old near a Family Dollar Store on January 7, 2015
Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Anthony D. Baldwin, 18 (1/28/96), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of Marcus Hill, 15, of Detroit. On January 7, 2015 at approximately 2:33 p.m. near the Family Dollar Store in the 19800 block of Joy Road, it is alleged that the defendant and the victim exchanged words, pulled out weapons, and that Baldwin fatally shot Hill in the head. He died from the wound at a local hospital.
Baldwin has been charged with Open Murder, Gang Membership, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Felony Firearm. He was arraigned at 34th District Court in Romulus and remanded to jail. His Pre- Examination hearing is scheduled for January 16th and his Preliminary Examination is scheduled for January 22nd in 36th District Court.
