Two Charged in Fatal Shooting of DFD Firefighter
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Arondez Larry Carter, 18 (DOB: 03/24/2000), homeless, and Shomari Jahi Walker, 18 (DOB: 05/01/2000), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of Jack Wiley, 28, an off-duty Detroit Firefighter.
On August 21, 2018 at approximately 9:15 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a location in the 15000 block of Penrod Street in response to a request for a welfare check of the resident. Upon arrival, Detroit police officers discovered the lifeless body of the victim. Additionally, several items were missing from the location. It is alleged that both defendants were in Mr. Wiley's home and planned to rob him. During the course of the robbery, Mr. Wiley was shot and killed. The defendants then took Mr. Wiley's belongings and fled the scene. Some of the stolen goods were located, but were found burned.
Both defendants have been charged with First Degree Premeditated Murder, Felony Murder, Armed Robbery, Tampering with Evidence, 4th Degree Arson, and Felony Firearm.*Carter and Walker were arraigned on August 26, 2018 in 34th District Court in Romulus. The Probable Cause Conferences are scheduled for September 5, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. before Judge William McConico. The Preliminary Examinations are scheduled for September 12, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. in 36th District Court. Both defendants were remanded to jail.

Macomb County Judge Catherine Steenland Charged with Two Misdemeanors
Today Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Macomb County Judge Catherine Steenland, 51, with two misdemeanors in connection with a car collision that occurred in Roseville, Michigan. On January 19, 2018 the case was referred to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office by the Office of the Attorney General after Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith recused his office from the case. WCPO requested investigative work from the Michigan State Police that was necessary to the review of the case, and to make a charging decision.On September 25, 2017 at approximately 8:30 p.m., police officers were dispatched to a hit and run incident at Gratiot near McKinnon Street in Roseville, Michigan. The officers spoke to a 31-year-old Roseville man, who alleged that a female driving a red sedan hit his car and drove away. The victim provided the officers with the license plate of the red sedan and description of the woman. There were also civilian witnesses that observed the incident. Investigation by the Michigan State Police identified Judge Steenland as the suspect in the case.
Judge Steenland has been charged with one count each of Failure to Stop at the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident, a one year Misdemeanor, and Failure to Report an Accident, a 90 day Misdemeanor. Judge Steenland was arraigned today in 72nd District Court in Marine City in front of Judge Hulewicz. The next court date is September 28, 2018.
Prosecutor Worthy said: "The alleged actions of this judge are disturbing. A judge is the ultimate example of one who should be held to the highest standards of the law."

Two Detroit Men Charged in Fatal Shooting of Teen
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Jeremy Lamar Cooley, 31, (DOB: 12/27/1986) and Deangelo Sanchez Alexander, 18, (DOB: 12/27/1999), both of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of a16-year-old Detroit male, and the non-fatal shooting of a15-year-old Detroit male.On August 24, 2018 at approximately 7:15 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a location in the 20600 block of West Seven Mile Road near Pierson Street in response to a shooting. Upon arrival, the officers discovered a 16-year-old victim who sustained a gunshot wound and the 15-year-old victim who sustained a wound to the arm. Medics at the scene transported both teens to a local hospital for treatment and where the 16-year-old was pronounced dead. Investigation by the Detroit police led to the arrests of the defendants.
It is alleged that Defendant Cooley drove the vehicle while Defendant Alexander discharged a weapon at the teens while they were changing a flat tire on their vehicle.Both defendants have been charged with Murder - First Degree, Assault with Intent to Murder, and Felony Firearm*. They were arraigned today by 36th District Court Magistrate Jeffrey Kleparek. The Probable Cause Conferences are scheduled for September 13, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examinations are scheduled for September 20, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Kenneth King in 36th District Court. Both defendants were remanded to jail.

Detroit Man Charged in Carjacking and Sexual Assault
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Tony David Kingsley, 24 (DOB: 08/25/1993), of Detroit, in connection with a carjacking and sexual assault that occurred in Hamtramck and Detroit.On August 19, 2018, at approximately 1:00 a.m., Detroit Police officers were dispatched to the Detroit Police Department's 4th Precinct whereupon they met with the 32 year-old female victim. It is alleged that Kingsley carjacked the victim in the rear of the 3300 block of Holbrook in Hamtramck. It is further alleged that the defendant demanded items from the victim at gunpoint and then got in the car and drove to southwest Detroit. In the area of Patton Park, the defendant is alleged to have sexually assaulted the victim and then left in the victim's car. The victim's car was discovered later that day, burned near Joseph Campau and McLean.
Kingsley has been charged with Carjacking, Robbery - Armed, Kidnapping, Torture, two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct - First Degree, two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct - Third Degree, Arson - Fourth Degree and four counts of Felony Firearm*.
Kingsley was arraigned on August 27, 2018 before Judge Alexis Krot in 31st District Court in Hamtramck. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for September 6, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Krot in 31st District Court. The defendant received a $1 Million dollar cash/surety/10% bond.

Detroit Man Charged in Fatal Go-Kart Crash
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Ollante Arvell Young, 29 (DOB: 03/02/89), of Detroit, in connection with the fatal crash of a go-kart which killed one child and injured another.
On August 29, 2018 at approximately 2:50 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a location in the 19000 block of St. Mary's Street near Cambridge Street in the City of Detroit. Upon arrival, the officers saw damage to a parked vehicle. Victims of the crash, a four year-old female and a five year-old female, were transported privately to a local hospital. The four year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital. The five year-old was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Police recovered the go-kart that was involved in the crash from a nearby address which had one seat and was not equipped headlights or seatbelts.
It is alleged that Defendant Young drove the vehicle while intoxicated. The two victims are his children.
Young has been charged with Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death, two counts of Child Abuse - 2nd Degree, and two counts of Operating While Intoxicated with an Occupant under the Age of 16.*
Young was arraigned this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Jeffrey Kleparek. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for September 6, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for September 11, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Deborah Lewis Langston in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $100,000 cash/surety bond.

Highland Park Man Charged in Theft from MSP
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Devin Javon Gates, 21 (DOB: 07/28/1997), of Highland Park, in connection with the August 25, 2018 theft from an MSP scout car near Mack Avenue and Riopelle Street in Detroit.
It is alleged that Mr. Gates broke the rear window of an unmarked Michigan State Police (MSP) car and stole items from the car including a police issued rifle. Mr. Gates loaded the items into a stolen vehicle and left the scene. Police recovered the stolen items and the stolen vehicle.
Mr. Gates is charged with Larceny of a Firearm, Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property - Motor Vehicle, Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property valued between $1,000 and $20,000, Malicious Destruction of Police and Fire Property and Felony Firearm.*
Gates was arraigned on August 26, 2018 out-county at 34th District Court in Romulus. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for September 4, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination has been scheduled for September 10, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Kenneth King in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $2,500 cash/surety bond.

Desmond Lamont Robinson - Charged in connection with the fatal hit-and-run car crash that killed off -duty Wayne County Sheriff Department Sgt. Lee Smith - Today, the defendant waived his preliminary examination. The Circuit Court Arraignment on the Information (AOI) is scheduled for September 6, 2018 in Third Circuit Court.
Exel Marzell Taylor - Charged in connection with the non-fatal shooting of a three year-old-girl in her mother's car at a gas station on Livernois - The defendant pleaded guilty today to three counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and three counts of Felony Firearm. He is scheduled to be sentenced on September 12, 2018 before Judge Boykin in Third Circuit Court.
