Detroit Woman Charged in Atkinson Street Shooting of Husband

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Ashley K. Eyler, 37 (DOB: 12/12/1980), in connection with shooting her husband James Eyler, of Detroit. On February 18, 2018 at approximately 10:35 a.m. in front of a house in the 2000 block of Atkinson it is alleged that the defendant shot her husband in the leg while he was having a dispute with a male neighbor over money. Police were called to the scene and the defendant was arrested and her husband was taken to a local hospital for treatment.Defendant Eyler has been charged with Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm and Felony Firearm*. She was arraigned on the warrant at 2:30 p.m. this afternoon before 36th District Court Magistrate Millicent Sherman. The probable cause conference is scheduled for February 28, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for March 5, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Lydia Nance Adams in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $25,000/10% bond. IOn March 5, 2018, she was bound over as charged.

Updated information: On June 11, 2018, in a bench trial before Judge Vonda Evans, the defendant was found not guilty of Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm and Felony Firearm, but was convicted of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm and sentenced to two years probation and court cost. On August 23, 2019, she completed the terms of her probation and the case was closed.

*The charges are allegations unless and until the defendant is convicted.

Sandra Waller - Defendant charged in connection with the fatal shooting of Lorraine Faison at the Burlington Coat Factory located in Taylor. Today she was sentenced to 16 years to 40 years in prison for Second Degree Murder and two years consecutive for Felony Firearm.

Fifteen-Year-Old Juvenile Melvindale High School Student Charged

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged a Melvindale juvenile respondent, age 15, (DOB: 3/13/2002) has been charged with one count of False Report or Threat of Terrorism [MCL 750.543M]. * On Monday, February 19, and on February 20, 2018, it is alleged that he communicated to another student at Melvindale High School, via "Snap Chat", that he was going to shoot up the school. In addition to the text, a photograph of an individual holding a gun was forwarded. The student, who received the messages, reported the communications to school officials who, in turn, reported it to the Melvindale Police Department. The Melvindale Police Department investigated the case and arrested the respondent.

A preliminary hearing was held at the Juvenile Detention Facility at 1:30 p.m. today before Referee Anthony Cruthfield. The judge set a $20,000/10% bond. If the respondent is able to post bond, he is prohibited from contacting or appearing at any Melvindale school. A Pre-Trial is scheduled before Referee Daniel McGuire at the Lincoln Hall of Justice on Monday, March 5, 2018 at 1:30 p.m.
