Sixty-One-Year-Old Twin Brothers Charged in Coney Island Assault

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged twin brothers Dwight T. Samuels and Duane T. Samuels, (DOBs: 06/19/2019), both 61, of Detroit. On June 19, 2019, at 2:00 a.m., it is alleged that the defendants entered a Coney Island in the 15700 block of West Seven Mile Road and argued with patrons in the restaurant. The defendants, one armed with a metal pipe, and the other armed with a gun, attacked a 40-year-old victim after they were told the restaurant does not sell fried mushrooms. The victim was beaten with the pipe and subsequently shot in his face. The defendants fled from the scene in a car. The Detroit Police Department asked the public for information about the incident and were able to apprehend the defendants.

Both defendants have been charged with: Assault with Intent to Murder, Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and four counts of Felony Firearm.*

Both defendants were arraigned in 34th District Court on June 23, 2019. The Probable Cause Conferences are scheduled for July 3, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examinations are scheduled for July 10, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. The hearings are scheduled before Judge Ronald Giles in 36th District Court. Dwight Samuels received a $225,000 cash bond; Duane Samuels received a $200,000 cash bond.

Two Detroiters Charged in University Place Murder

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Dangelo Darnell Dukes, 25 (DOB: 05/05/1994), and Dejah Diane Hogan, 26, (DOB: 06/12/1993), both of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of Arthur Reed Boyle, 62, also of Detroit.

On June 13, 2019 at approximately 5:40 p.m., Detroit Police were contacted about a wellness check in the 4800 block of University Place. Upon arrival, police officers were met by relatives of the victim who had been contacted when the victim did not show up for work. The officers discovered the lifeless body of the victim in the basement of the residence.

Investigation by the Detroit Police led to the arrest of the defendants. Facts and evidence of the case will be presented at the Preliminary Examination.

Dukes has been charged with Felony Murder, Home Invasion - First Degree, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and three counts of Felony Firearm.* He was arraigned on June 24, 2019 before 36th District Court Magistrate Laura Echartea. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for July 1, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for July 8, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Ronald Giles in 36th District Court. Dukes was remanded to jail.

Defendant Hogan has been charged with Felony Murder.* She was arraigned on June 21, 2019 before 36th District Court Magistrate Jeffrey Kleparek. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for July 5, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for July 12, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Ronald Giles in 36th District Court. Hogan was remanded to jail.

Charges Issue in Redford Homicide of Five-Year-Old Girl

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Michael Deshawn Lewis, 30 (DOB: 04/11/1989) and Steffani Jones, 26, (DOB: 03/18/1993), both of Redford, in connection with the fatal beating of Jones' five-year-old daughter.

On June 25, 2019 at approximately 9:30 a.m., Redford Township police were dispatched to a hotel in the 14300 block of Telegraph Road in Redford Township. Upon arrival, the officers found a female child injured and unresponsive. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment, where she succumbed to her injuries. It is further alleged that the defendants physically abused Jones' three-year-old toddler. Investigation by the Redford police led to the arrest and charging of the defendants. Facts and evidence of the case will be presented at the Preliminary Examination.

Lewis and Jones have both been charged with Felony Murder, Second Degree Murder and two counts of First Degree Child Abuse.* They were arraigned at 4:00 p.m. this afternoon before 17th District Court Judge Karen Kahlil. The Probable Cause Conferences are schedule for July 9, 2019 at 8:40 a.m.; the Preliminary Examinations are scheduled for July 16, 2019. All hearings are before Judge Karen Khalil in 17th District Court. Both defendants were remanded to jail.
