William Melendez - Former Inkster police officer charged in connection with the alleged assault on Floyd Dent. The jury has been selected and opening statements are scheduled to begin tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Vonda Evans.

Kimberly Garrett - Garrett voluntarily consumed heroin, Xanax, and cocaine, and then drove her vehicle, left the roadway, struck eight-year-old Kayale Fruge, then fled the scene. Today Judge Mark Slavens sentenced the defendant to 25 years to 50 years in prison for her plea-based conviction of Second Degree Murder. A sentence of 10-15 years on her conviction of Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death was also imposed and will be served concurrently.

Three Charged in Non-Fatal Shooting of Detroit Police Officer

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Defendants Deyshawn Hollis-James, (DOB: 4.26.94), Deonte Hollis, (DOB: 6/21/91) and Christopher Carson (DOB: 1/25/85), all of Detroit, in connection with the non-fatal shooting of a Detroit police officer. On October 31, 2015 at approximately 11:01 a.m., it is alleged that Hollis-James fired shots from a home in the 8500 block of Orangelawn when police were investigating the location. One of the shots hit and injured a police officer in the leg.

He was treated at a local hospital for his wound. The facts and evidence related to the case will be presented in court at the preliminary examination.

Deyshawn Hollis-James has been charged with four counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana, Possession with Intent to Deliver Cocaine and Felony Firearm. Deonte Hollis has been charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana, Possession with Intent to Deliver Cocaine, Operating a Drug House, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Felony Firearm. Christopher Carson has been charged with two counts of Felonious Assault, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, two counts of Resisting and Obstructing and Felony Firearm.

Today the three defendants were arraigned before 36th District Court Magistrate Charles Anderson. They are all scheduled for a probable cause hearing on November 10, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. and a preliminary examination on November 17, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Kenneth King. Defendant Deyshawn Hollis-James received a $250,000 cash/surety bond; the other two defendants, Deonte Hollis and Christopher Carson, each received a $25,000/10% bond.
