Three Charged in Homicide of Starkisha Thompson

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Jah-Lana Streeter, 23 (DOB: 11/18/1994), of Detroit, Kenneth Dixon, 26 (DOB: 12/03/1991) of Warren, and Corey Holmes, 39 (DOB: 10/19/1978) of Detroit, in connection with the homicide of Starkisha Thompson, 32, of Detroit. On October 9, 2018 at 8:05 a.m., police responded to a "shots fired" police dispatch to the driveway of a home in the 16400 block of Collingham Drive in Detroit. Ms. Thompson sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by medics. It is alleged that Streeter, Dixon and Holmes killed Ms. Thompson. The facts and evidence in the homicide case will be presented in court at the preliminary examination.

Streeter, Dixon and Holmes have each been charged with: Murder - First Degree, Conspiracy to Commit Murder - First Degree, Witness Intimidating - Committing a Crime, Witness - Retaliating Against.* Defendant Holmes is also charged with Felon in Possession and three counts of Felony Firearm.*

Streeter was arraigned and remanded to jail in 36th District Court. Streeter will have a Probable Cause Conference on October 29, 2018. Her Preliminary Examination is scheduled for November 5, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. before 36th District Court Judge William McConico.

Defendants Dixon and Holmes were arraigned this morning before 36th District Court Magistrate Jeffery Kleparek. The Probable Cause Conferences are scheduled for November 5, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examinations are scheduled for November 12, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge William McConico in 36th District Court. Dixon and Holmes were remanded to jail.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Defendant Mark Bessner - Former MSP Trooper charged in connection with the death of 15-year-old Damon Grimes. The closing arguments in the case will be held on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Margaret Van Houten.

Juvenile Charged in Central High School Sexual Assault

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged a 15-year-old Detroit male in connection with the sexual assault of a Central High School student. On October 8, 2018 at approximately 3:00 p.m., it is alleged that the juvenile respondent took two cellphones from the female victim's desk. She followed him into a hallway to get her phone, when it is alleged that he grabbed her by the neck and forced her to a back stairway. Once in the hallway he choked her, pulled her down the stairs and sexually assaulted the victim.

The juvenile has been adult designated, which means upon conviction he can be sentenced as a juvenile, or as a defendant, or the judge can blend the sentence and fashion a juvenile and adult sentence. He has been charged with: two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct First Degree, four counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct Third Degree and Larceny under $200.00.*

Today a Preliminary Hearing was held before Referee Leslie Graves at the Juvenile Detention Facility. A $25,000 cash bond was ordered, pending a Preliminary Examination scheduled for Friday, October 26, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. before Judge Virgil Smith at the Lincoln Hall of Justice. If bond is posted, the juvenile must have no contact, direct or indirectly, with the 15-year-old victim, or any potential witness in this case.

Judge Catherine Steenland - Today 39th District Court Judge Steenland entered a no contest plea to Failure to Stop at the Scene of A Personal Injury Accident and Failure to Report an Accident in 72nd District Court in Marine City. She will be sentenced on November 30, 2018.
