Detroit Man Charged in Infant Death
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Randon McMeekins, 28, (DOB: 01/12/1991) of Detroit, in connection with the death a two-year-old male infant. The defendant and the victim were acquainted.
On September 27, 2019 at approximately 8:50 a.m., the defendant privately conveyed the unresponsive infant to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Detroit Police officers were dispatched to the hospital and placed the defendant under arrest. It is alleged that earlier in the day, at a residence in the 9300 block of Cloverlawn, the defendant struck the infant and caused his death. The facts and evidence of the case will be presented at the Preliminary Examination.
McMeekins has been charged with Felony Murder and First Degree Child Abuse.* He was arraigned on September 30, 2019 before 36th District Court Magistrate Dawn White. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for October 10, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for October 17, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. Both hearings are before Judge Ronald Giles in 36th District Court.
