Farmington Hills Man Charged with Setting Woman on Fire
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged William G. Helmer, (DOB: 09/25/1956), in connection with setting a 62-year-old woman on fire. The defendant and the victim were acquainted with each other and both resided in Farmington Hills.
On November 9, 2019, at 8:07 p.m., citizens flagged down a Redford police officer near a Coney Island in the 25810 block of Seven Mile Road in Redford because the 62-year-old victim was lying on the ground emitting smoke, with severe burns on her body. She was able to speak briefly before medics transported her to a local hospital for treatment. After the police requested help from the public to locate Helmer, he was arrested by the U.S. Marshal Task Force on Tuesday, November 12, 2019.
Today the defendant has been charged with one count of Assault with Intent to Murder and Aggravated Assault.* He was arraigned this afternoon before Judge Karen Khalil in 17th District Court in Redford. The Probable Cause Conference and the Preliminary Examination are scheduled for December 3, 2019 at 8:40 a.m. before 17th District Court Judge Krista Haroutunian. The defendant was remanded to jail.
