Detroit Man Charged in Sexual Assault of 11-Year-Old Girl

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Darrell Lee Harris, 50 (DOB: 11/27/1968), of Detroit, in connection with the criminal sexual assault of a girl under the age of 13. The victim is the daughter of Harris's ex-girlfriend.

It is alleged that the defendant raped the 11-year-old victim on two separate occasions in July and August 2018, at a location in the 5500 block of Coplin in Detroit. On December 1, 2018, the victim's mother uncovered evidence of the defendant's alleged sexually abusive behavior and reported it to the police. Further evidence in the case will be presented in court at the preliminary examination.

On February 5, 2019 Harris was charged with two counts of First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct - Under 13.* On February 6, 2019 he was taken into custody by the Detroit Police Department.

Today Harris was arraigned before Magistrate Millicent Sherman in 36th District Court. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for February 20, 2019 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for February 27, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge William McConico in 36th District Court. The defendant received $150,000 cash/surety bond. Please contact the Detroit Police Department to request a photograph of the defendant.
