National Crime Victims' Rights Week is Coming

National Crime Victims' Rights Week is April 7^th through April 13^th, 2019. This year's theme, Honoring Our Past. Creating Hope for the Future emphasizes the importance of inclusion in victim services. The theme addresses how the crime victims field can better ensure that every crime victim has access to services and support, as well as how professionals, organizations, and communities can work together to reach all victims.

Events schedule during National Crime Victims' Rights Week

April 9^th - Crime Victims Action Team Victim Awareness Event - 1:00 p.m. 2:00 p.m. at Lafayette Greens, 132 West Lafayette Boulevard, Detroit in collaboration with the Detroit Crime Victims Action Team.

This event will recognize outstanding Victim Service Providers and Victim Advocates from the region of southeast Michigan.

Lafayette Greens is a local Downtown Detroit community-garden, giving DCVAT space to dedicate a perennial garden to crime victims and those who have dedicated their lives to serve and assist crime victims. See flyer attached.

April 10^th - Ninth Annual KidsTalk Youth Poetry Slam - 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCAD), 4454 Woodward Avenue, Detroit.

We need young poets for our annual Kids-TALK CAC Poetry Slam. We ask poets to speak out for those affected by trauma (i.e. the things that cause great distress and emotional pain).

All youth participants are required to attend a preliminary meeting to obtain rules for participating.

Come join us on the porch of the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, 1441 St. Antoine, Detroit.

Guest Speakers include:

· Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans

· Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon

· Two Brave Crime Victims/Survivors

A Dove & Balloon release will commence to show compassion and share hope for all those who have been victimized by crime in Wayne County. See flyer attached.
