The Wayne County Clerk’s Office serves the public and will do so to the best of it’s ability in a professional, courteous and efficient manner. Criminal cases are filed and processed in the Wayne County Clerk’s Office Court Services Unit within the jurisdiction of the Circuit Court and the County of Wayne.
All case related documents filed with the court as required by the court rules must be filed with Clerk of the Court.

As Clerk of the Court, the County Clerk’s office has the responsibility of entering court proceedings for approximately 21,000 criminal cases yearly for the Third Judicial Circuit Court and the 24th District Court into the official court case record. The Clerk’s office is also responsible for the receipt, filing, maintenance and retrieval of the physical court case file for court proceedings, as well as duplication and certification of case file documents.
The Clerk’s office acts as the liaison for the County Clerk in the Criminal Division. The Court Services division responds to queries from defendants, general public, law enforcement agents, and other interested parties; and disseminates information regarding the criminal cases filed in the Third Judicial Circuit Court.
The Clerk’s office retrieves and transmits all cases to the Appellate Courts and Attorney General’s Office for appellate review. Additionally, it is the responsibility of the Appeals Section to initiate and distribute District Court Appeals for contested rulings from 24 Wayne County District Courts to the Judges sitting on the Criminal Bench in accordance with the Appellate Court Rules. Maintaining and distributing appellate transcripts is another duty and responsibility of the Appellate Section.
