Together, Wayne County and You
can build Green Schools for a better environment!

I am writing to let you know about a new county initiative to showcase your school’s environmental leadership, while encouraging students, staff, and parents to improve energy conservation.

Public Act 141 of 2006, the Michigan Green School Act, encourages all public and private schools to voluntarily implement energy-saving and environmental activities in order to be recognized as a “Michigan Green School.” The Wayne County Department of Environment has teamed up with the Wayne County Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) to introduce this program and to recognize schools that achieve 10 or more of the 24 required activities in an academic year.

All schools recognized as an official Michigan Green School will receive the official Michigan Green School flag and a handsome certificate to proudly display your efforts to save taxpayer dollars while protecting Michigan’s precious natural resources. I might even visit your school to celebrate your success!

To obtain an application packet, please contact our coordinator, Nancy Gregor, at (734) 326-3936 or . Please also feel free to contact my Environment Director, Kurt Heise, at (313) 224-3631 or with any questions you might have.

Sincerely,
Robert A. Ficano
County Executive
