One benefit to living in Wayne County is the amazing variety of recreational, athletic, educational and nature opportunities available for people of all ages, interests and abilities. Whether you live here or are just visiting, we invite you to take advantage of the services we provide.

Wayne County Parks offers a broad range of activities including Jazz on the River, Senior Picnic, Saturday in the Park and Mud Day. We cap the year with our Lightfest display in beautiful Hines Park. In addition, there are miles of trails at Crosswinds Marsh in Sumpter Township and the Holliday Nature Preserve in Westland. Wayne County Parks also owns Chandler Park Family Aquatic Center in Detroit and two golf courses, Inkster Valley in Inkster and Warren Valley in Dearborn Heights.

A world of friends, fun and fitness awaits you just outside your door. We encourage all Wayne County residents to discover and enjoy the world of Wayne County Parks!

Wayne County offers a series of educational programs in 2015

Wayne County Parks is offering a series of 90 minute local history presentations on select Saturdays throughout the year. For ages 12 and up, all programs are held at the Nankin Mills Interpretive Center in Westland.

Tap into Wayne County’s sweet program; Maple Sugaring

Monday, March 16, 2015 -
Learn the history of maple sugaring and take a short hike into the woods for an actual tree-tapping demonstration. In celebration of this early spring ritual, the group will enjoy pancakes topped with the “real thing” afterwards! March 21 and 28.

Saturday in the Park

Six miles of Hines Park (Hines Drive) will be closed to traffic every Saturday for the public of all ages to run, walk, skate or cycle safely. Hines Drive will be closed from Outer Drive to Ann Arbor Trail.

Saturday, June 13, 2015 - Wayne County Parks
All kids ages 12 and younger are welcome to have some fishing fun and win prizes. The Rouge River will be stocked with rainbow trout and a casting contest will take place. All anglers need to bring their own equipment and bait.
