Community groups join with Treasurer to reach out to delinquent taxpayers |
| |
Representatives from more than 20 Wayne County neighborhood organizations will be gathering together Monday morning at the International Center building in Greektown to join with Wayne County Treasurer Raymond J. Wojtowicz in reaching out to the last remaining delinquent taxpayers who own occupied properties and who still have not paid their 2005 property taxes. |

Total of $246 million to be distributed to all taxing bodies throughout Wayne County |

Recognizing that Wayne County municipalities and other taxing units are facing some of the toughest economic times ever and are in need of cash sooner rather than later, Treasurer Raymond J. Wojtowicz put forth an extra effort to place delinquent property tax checks in the mail by June 23, 2008. These checks reflect their respective portions of uncollected delinquent property tax revenue from the 2007 delinquent real property taxes. |

Press Advisory Relating to Distribution of Tax Monies |

Press conference announcing distribution of Delinquent Tax Revolving Fund checks to all Wayne County taxing units. In addition to making the formal announcement, Wayne County Treasurer Raymond J. Wojtowicz will personally hand checks to representatives from the City of Detroit and Detroit Public Schools for the amounts of $87,278,691.58 and $37,255,192 respectively. |

Wayne County Treasurer coordinates massive-door-to-door effort to reach remaining delinquent taxpayers most at risk of losing homes |

Wayne County Treasurer Raymond J. Wojtowicz has launched Phase II of Operation Normandy. This follow-up effort to what was begun on February 18, 2008, urges churches, community groups and neighborhood associations to assist in going door-to-door to contact renters and owners of occupied properties who have yet to contact either the Treasurer’s office or any one of the non-profit organizations with which the Treasurer’s office has partnered regarding their 2005 delinquent taxes. |

Wayne County Treasurer partners with City of Detroit to fight blight |

In an unprecedented cooperative alliance, Wayne County Treasurer Raymond J. Wojtowicz has formally partnered with the City of Detroit to address a longstanding concern about vacant lots that have been lost to property tax foreclosure. This cooperative venture essentially joins Detroit together with the Wayne County Treasurer’s Office in an effort to improve neighborhood livability by actively employing blight prevention through regular grass cuttings and removal of solid waste. continue  |

Wayne County Treasurer/Urban Farming partnership takes the next step |

In November 2007, the Wayne County Treasurer’s Office entered into a unique and creative partnership with Urban Farming designed to put fallow land to good use by allowing Urban Farming to utilize 20 tax-foreclosed vacant properties to grow produce that will be available for free to neighborhood residents as well as to local food banks. continue  |

Wayne County Treasurer announces comprehensive taxpayer assistance initiative |

The October 2007 Wayne County Auction of tax-foreclosed properties came to a close shortly before noon on Wednesday, Oct. 24, after the final listed property was offered for sale. Although the auction had originally been scheduled to run from Oct. 23-26, there was no need to continue beyond noontime Wednesday since there were no more properties left to auction.continue  |
