Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Damond Lamont Hunter, 32, of Detroit, in connection with the non-fatal shootings of two 33-year-old men, a 42-year-old man, a 45-year-old man, and a 48-year-old man, all of Detroit.

On March 29, 2024, at approximately 2:44 a.m., at a night club in the 8200 block of West Chicago in Detroit ,it is alleged that a verbal altercation between the victims and an unknown group of people escalated into a physical altercation. It is further alleged that Defendant Hunter produced and fired a handgun into the group multiple times, non-fatally injuring the victims, before fleeing the scene. The victims were privately transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The investigation was conducted by the Detroit Police Department. They were assisted by the Airport Police Department in arresting the defendant at Detroit Metro Airport in Romulus, on April 10, 2024.

"I have seen countless arguments escalate into serious shooting incidents over the most trivial things. Any time a weapon is introduced, it never ends well - most times tragically. We must stop escalating the violence into violence. In this case, the only good thing that came out of it is that no one died," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

Damond Lamont Hunter has been charged with five counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, five counts of Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and 11 counts of Felony Firearm.*

He was arraigned on April 13, 2024, in 36th District Court by Magistrate Laura Echartea and received a $1 million cash bond. On April 15, 2024, the bond remained the same after a bond redetermination hearing held before Judge Larry Williams. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for April 19, 2024, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for April 29, 2024, at 8:45 a.m., before Judge Patricia Jefferson.
