Delivery Driver Charged in Detroit Fatal Hit and Run
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Joseph Edmond Stewart, 25, of Grand Blanc, Michigan, in connection with a car crash that killed Delia Dinwiddie, 56, of Detroit.
On June 8, 2024, at approximately 8:58 p.m., while driving southbound on Linwood Street near Leslie Street in Detroit, it is alleged that Defendant Stewart was working for an online food delivery service when he struck the victim with his vehicle, before fleeing the scene. Medics arrived on the scene and transported Ms. Dinwiddie to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased. Defendant Stewart was arrested by the Genesee County Sheriff's Department and turned over to the Detroit Police Department on June 12, 2024.
Joseph Edmond Stewart has been charged with Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident When at Fault - Causing Death, Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident - Causing Serious Impairment/Death, and Moving Violation Causing Death.*
He was arraigned on June 14, 2024, in 36th District Court before Magistrate William Burton and given a $100,000 personal bond. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for June 25, 2024, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for July 1, 2024, at 8:45 a.m., before Judge Ronald Giles.
