Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Alahondro Von Fitzpatrick, 31, of Detroit, in connection with the nonfatal shooting of his three-year-old son.

On January 24, 2025, at approximately 12:25 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 3300 block of Fullerton in Detroit for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the hand. Officers transported the child to a local hospital for treatment.

It is alleged that the child found an unsecured handgun in the home and fired it, striking himself in the hand.

Alahondro Von Fitzpatrick has been charged with one count of Firearms - Safe Storage Violations - Premises Under Individual's Control - Minor Present and Injured Self or Another, and one count of Felony Firearm.*

"There is a very simple solution to these deaths and injuries to our children. Safely. Store. Your. Guns. This is one plus one stuff. This isn't rocket science," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

He was arraigned this afternoon in 36th District Court before Magistrate Joseph Boyer and given a $20,000 personal bond. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for February 5, 2025, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for February 11, 2025, at 8:45 a.m., before Judge Ronald Giles.
