Detroit Man Charged in 2022 Homicide
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Darnell Jerome Franklin Jr., 19, of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of Derrell Rockette, 32, also of Detroit.
On December 10, 2022, at approximately 4:51 p.m., at a residence in the 18000 block of Ashton Avenue in Detroit it is alleged that Defendant Franklin fired a handgun multiple times, fatally striking Mr. Rockette. The victim was privately transported to a local hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant on March 20, 2025.
Darnell Jermone Franklin Jr. has been charged with First-Degree Murder, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Carrying a Weapon with Unlawful Intent, and two counts of Felony Firearm.*
He was arraigned on March 23, 2025, in 36th District Court before Magistrate Laura Echartea and given a $500,00 cash/surety bond. On March 25, 2025, at the bond re-determination hearing before Judge William McConico, the defendant's bond was lowered to $250,000 cash/surety with a GPS tether and house arrest. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for March 28, 2025, at 8:30 a.m., before Judge Shawn Jacque.
