Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Le Mar Manassa Jr., 23, of Detroit, in connection with the fatal assault of his father, Le Mar Manassa, Sr., 53. The defendant and the victim were residing together at the time of the incident.

On March 22, 2025, at approximately 7:24 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 5700 block of University Place for a reported unknown problem. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim in the kitchen of the home unresponsive. Medics arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

It is alleged that a verbal altercation between the defendant and the victim escalated, and Defendant Manassa punched his father multiple times in the head fatally injuring him.

Le Mar Manassa Jr., has been charged with Manslaughter.*

He was arraigned this morning in 36th District Court before Magistrate Joseph Boyer and given a $500,000 cash/surety bond with a GPS tether and house arrest. A bond re-determination hearing is scheduled for March 27, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., before Judge William McConico. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for April 2, 2025, at 8:30 a.m., before Judge Shawn Jacque.
