Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Antwon Tyree Williams, 22, of Detroit, in connection with the non-fatal shooting of a seven-year-old boy.

On July 15, 2024, at approximately 12:35 a.m., Inkster police officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 400 block of Tobin Drive for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located the seven-year-old victim inside of the home suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Officers transported the child to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

It is alleged that Defendant Williams was handling a handgun and it fired, striking the child in the chest, non-fatally wounding him.

Antown Tyree Williams has been charged with Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, Discharge in a Building Causing Injury, Careless Discharge Causing Injury, and three counts of Felony Firearm.*

"This is yet another case where, yet another child was shot inside a home where a gun was present. We have tried just about everything to try to stop this from happening. Adults failed this child," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

He was arraigned on August 7, 2024, in 22nd District Court, before Judge Sabrina Johnson and given a $100,000 cash/surety bond. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for August 21, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., before Judge Johnson. Please request a photograph of the defendant from the Inkster Police Department.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
