Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Darius Daron Shantez Lacey, 25, of Detroit, in connection with the non-fatal shooting of a two-year-old boy. Defendant Lacey has a nine-month-old son child in common with the victim's mother.

On November 26, 2024, around 5:45 p.m., at a residence in the 550 block of Dickerson Street, it is alleged that Defendant Lacey attempted to force entry into the victim's mother's home. Detroit police officers were on patrol in the area when they observed that the defendant's vehicle had improper plates. When officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, it is alleged that Defendant Lacey fled from the scene. At approximately 6:30 p.m., it is alleged that Defendant Lacey returned to the residence. During an argument with the victim's mother, the defendant forced entry into the home and produced and fired a handgun multiple times, striking the two-year-old victim in the leg, non-fatally injuring him. The child was privately transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Darius Daron Shantez Lacey has been charged with two counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, two counts of Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, one count of First-Degree Home Invasion, one count of Fourth Degree Fleeing and Eluding, and five counts of Felony Firearm.*

He was arraigned on November 30, 2024, in 36th District Court and given a $500,000 cash/surety bond with a GPS tether. A bond re-determination hearing is scheduled for December 3, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., before Judge William McConico. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for December 9, 2024, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for December 16, 2024, at 8:45 a.m., before Judge Patrcia Jefferson.
