Detroit Man Charged in Redford Motel Fatal Shooting
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Jose Angel Oquendo-Torruella, 39, of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of Valentina Colban, 37, also of Detroit. Ms. Colban was the girlfriend of the defendant.
On November 9, 2024, at approximately 4:57 a.m., Redford police officers were dispatched to a motel in the in 9900 block of Telegraph Road for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim inside a motel room, suffering from a gunshot wound to the face. Medics arrived on the scene and transported Ms. Colban to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased. It is alleged that Defendant Oquendo-Torruella was had a handgun and discharged it striking Ms. Colban in the face, fatally wounding her.
Jose Angel Oquendo-Torruella has been charged with Second-Degree Murder and Felony Firearm.*
He was arraigned and remanded to jail today in 17th District Court. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for November 19, 2024, at 8:45 a.m., before Judge Karen Khalil.
