Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged a former Highland Park Police Officer Dammeon Lamark Player, 51, in connection with the assault of a 36-year-old man of Highland Park.

On May 14, 2020, at approximately 3:40 p.m., at a Burger King in the 13300 block of Woodward Avenue in Highland Park, 911 was called because the victim was being disorderly. Officer Player was dispatched to the location, and it is alleged that a verbal confrontation between he and the victim escalated, and Officer Player deployed his department issued taser from his vehicle towards the victim, but did not take effect. It is further alleged that Officer Player exited his vehicle and followed the victim further down Woodward Avenue before deploying his taser again and pushing the victim, causing him to fall into a cement wall and hit his head. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.

Dammeon Lamark Player has been charged with Misconduct in Office, Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, and Felonious Assault.*

He was arraigned on March 20, 2025, in 30th District Court and given a $10,000 personal bond. He is also ordered to have no contact with the victim or witnesses on the case. He may not possess any weapons and cannot leave the state. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for April 1, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., before Judge Brigette Officer Holley.
