Juvenile Charged with Fleeing in Stolen Car from Garden City Police Officers
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged a 17-year-old juvenile male, of Detroit, in connection with fleeing from Garden City police officers.
On January 29, 2025, at approximately 1:55 a.m., Garden City police officers were in the area of Ford Road and Venoy Road in Garden City when they observed the juvenile in a stolen vehicle. When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, it is alleged that the juvenile fled from the officers at a high rate of speed. During the pursuit, it is alleged that the juvenile attempted to strike the officers' vehicle with the stolen vehicle. The pursuit ended at the intersection of Bluehill Street and Denver Street in Detroit, and the juvenile was apprehended by officers.
The juvenile respondent has been charged with Fleeing - Third Degree, Receiving and Concealing a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving, and Operating with No License.*
"This case although unfortunately not unusual, is nonetheless extremely troubling. This youth is alleged to have stolen a car. When a car is stolen it can have a substantial impact on the victim's ability to go to work to make a living and take care of their family. The allegation that the respondent was fleeing at a high rate of speed from officers created a grave danger to the officers and the public. Luckily, no one was injured," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.
The Preliminary Hearing will be held this afternoon after 1:30 p.m., in the Lincoln Hall of Justice before Referee Leslie Graves. He received a $5000 cash/surety bond. As a condition of bond, he will have a tether, no driving of motor vehicles, and no illegal drug use. His next court date is February 18, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. before Judge Christopher Dingell.
*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
