Mother Sentenced in Murder of Her Three-Year-Old Boy Found Dead in Freezer
On June 24, 2022, at 12:45 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a home in the 12760 block of Monte Vista for a wellness check on a child. While there the officers discovered the remains of a deceased child in the freezer in the home.
The investigation identified Azuradee France, 33, as the mother of Chayce, the deceased three-year-old male child. The medical examiner determined that his death was a homicide, caused by blunt force head trauma. Defendant France killed her child and placed him in a freezer in March 2022.
On June 26, 2022, Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Defendant France with Felony Murder, First-Degree Child Abuse, Torture, and Concealing the Death of an Individual. She was arraigned and remanded to jail on June 26, 2022, in 36th District Court before Magistrate Laura Echartea.
On July 12, 2024, Defendant France pleaded guilty to Second-Degree Murder with a sentence agreement of 35 to 60 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections. Today, France was sentenced according to the plea agreement before Judge Tracy Green. The Felony Murder, First-Degree Child Abuse, Torture, and Concealing the Death of an Individual charges were dismissed.
"The alleged facts in this case have astounded even the seriously jaded. Our children continue to be at risk - not just from gun violence but also from the alleged murderer that lives in the house with them," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.
