Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Ahmad Nyjahjuan Jatta, 30, of Roseville, in connection with a car crash that killed a seven-year-old boy, and injured a five-year-old girl, a 21-year-old man, and a 23-year-old woman, all of Detroit.

On November 9, 2024, at approximately 4:38 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to the intersection of East Seven Mile Road and Mound Road for a reported car crash. Upon their arrival, officers located the seven-year-old victim unresponsive, lying next to the vehicle. Medics arrived on the scene and pronounced the seven-year-old victim deceased. The remaining victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

It is alleged that Defendant Jatta was intoxicated, driving at a high rate of speed westbound on East Seven Mile Road, when he struck the victims' vehicle, fatally injuring the seven-year-old victim, before fleeing the scene on foot.

Ahmad Nyjahjuan Jatta has been charged with one count of Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death, and three counts of Operating While Intoxicated Causing Serious Injury.*

He was arraigned this afternoon in 36th District Court and given a $500,000 cash/surety bond. A bond re-determination hearing is scheduled for November 14, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., before Judge William McConico. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for November 25, 2024, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for December 2, 2024, at 8:45 a.m., before Judge Marlena Taylor.
