Taylor Man Charged in Hit-and-Run Killing Dog
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Norman Edgar Newman, 38, of Taylor, in connection with a car crash that killed a 34-year-old Taylor woman's dog.
On February 3, 2025, at approximately 5:42 p.m., it is alleged that Defendant Newman was driving recklessly over the speed limit going northbound on Holland Road near Goddard Road in Taylor, when he struck the victim's dog while she was walking northbound on Holland Road. It is further alleged that the defendant fled from the scene. The victim transported her dog to a local animal hospital where the dog succumbed to its injuries and was pronounced deceased. Investigation by the Taylor Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant on February 5, 2025.
Norman Edgar Newman has been charged with one count of Animals - Abandoning/ Cruelty to One Animal Resulting in Death, one count of Reckless Driving, and one count of Driving While License Suspended, Revoked, or Denied.*
He was arraigned this afternoon in 23rd District Court and given a $1,000 personal bond. A Pre-Trial is scheduled for February 24, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., before Judge Joseph Slaven. Please request a photograph of the defendant from the Taylor Police Department.
