Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Felecia Sunshine Lazo, 25, of Taylor, in connection with a car crash that killed Dr. Ghada Mustapha, 33, of Dearborn.

On July 19, 2024, at approximately 7:59 a.m., Dearborn police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Nowlin Street for a reported traffic crash. Upon their arrival, officers observed Defendant Lazo's vehicle turned over on the median of Michigan Avenue and Ms. Mustapha's vehicle facing northbound on eastbound Michigan Avenue. Medics arrived on the scene and pronounced Ms. Mustapha deceased and transported the defendant to a local hospital for treatment.

It is alleged that while travelling eastbound on Michigan Avenue, Defendant Lazo drove her vehicle at an extremely high rate of speed and disregarded the red light at Nowlin Street before crashing into Ms. Mustapha's vehicle killing her.

Felecia Sunshine Lazo has been charged with Second-Degree Murder, which carries life or any term of years in prison.*

"It is always beyond tragic when the life of a promising young person is cut short over the horrific actions of another. By every account, Ghada Mustapha was a young, brilliant, and passionate doctor who was just beginning her medical career. She had hopes, dreams, and goals for herself and her family. The alleged actions of this defendant took away her life - along with those hopes, dreams, and goals," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

The defendant was arraigned today in 19th District Court before Judge Mark Somers. The court set bond of $250,000/10% with a GPS tether, full house confinement with exceptions for verified medical appointments, and no driving. The Probable Cause Hearing is set for November 15, 2024, at 9:00 AM.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
