Two Teens Charged in Robbery and Fatal Shooting of 16-Year-Old
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Barry Love, 15, and Anthony Carter, 16, both of Detroit, in connection with the robbery and fatal shooting of a 16-year-old male, also of Detroit. The juveniles will be waived and tried as adult defendants.
On May 22, 2024, at approximately 3:53 p.m., Detroit police offices were dispatched to the area of Bedford Street and Edsel Ford for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. Medics arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
It is alleged that the defendants robbed the victim while he was walking around King Richard Street and Bedford Street. It is further alleged that the defendants produced and fired handguns multiple times, fatally wounding the victim, before fleeing the scene. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendants on June 6, 2024.
Barry Love and Anthony Carter have been charged with Felony Murder, Armed Robbery, and two counts of Felony Firearm.*
The defendants were arraigned on June 13, 2024, in 36th District Court before Magistrate Malaika Ramsey-Heath. Defendant Love was given a $1 million cash bond and Defendant Carter was given a $200,000 cash bond. A bond re-determination hearing is scheduled for June 17, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., before Judge William McConico. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for June 21, 2024, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for June 27, 2024, at 1:45 p.m., before Judge Kenneth King.
