Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged April Marie Graves, 43, of Westland, in connection with a car crash that injured a 31-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man, also of Westland.

On August 10, 2024, at approximately 7:17 p.m., Westland police officers were dispatched to the area of Wildwood and Florence for a reported car crash. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim pinned under a vehicle. Members of the Westland Fire Department arrived on the scene and removed the victim from under the vehicle before transporting him to a local hospital for treatment.

It is alleged that Defendant Graves was intoxicated and driving at a high rate of speed when she crashed into multiple vehicles on Wildwood Street. It is also alleged that while the male and female victims were unloading items from their vehicle, Defendant Graves drove her car into the victims, pinning the male victim between the two vehicles.

April Marie Graves has been charged with two counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, two counts to Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, one count of Operating While Intoxicated Causing Serious Bodily Impairment, one count of Reckless Driving Causing Serious Bodily Injury, two counts of Felonious Assault, two counts of Malicious Destruction of Property Over $1,000, two counts of Malicious Destruction of Personal Property Over $1,000, and one count of Open Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle.*

"I cannot think of a more stunning example of alleged criminal behavior of a driver behind the steering wheel of a motor vehicle. The result is severe injuries to two Wayne County citizens that will be with them for their lifetimes," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

She was arraigned this afternoon in 18th District Court and given an $850,000/10% bond with a GPS and alcohol tether. The defendant is ordered to have no contact with the victims, no consumption of alcohol or illicit drugs, and is not allowed to drive. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for August 22, 2024, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for August 29, 2024, at 8:30 a.m., before Judge Sandra Cicirelli. Please request a photograph of the defendant from the Westland Police Department.
